Garden Project: Jones Hill Slope
Share
This is a site we are currently consulting on and supplying the landscape planting schedule for. Rocky slopes are a very common challenge when gardening in Gympie and surrounds. Landscaping in such instances requires a little more thought, especially with regard to water run off and species selection. These areas tend to be one that people want to have planted with species that have lower growth habits, often 1 metre in height maximum, very low maintenance requirements as well as very high weed suppression. With careful species selection and placements, along with good groundwork at time of planting, these spaces can be transformed into a lovely patchwork of colour, texture and shapes.
The Blank Canvas- work begins with planning

After making a large plant list I found that I kept adding more and more species. They were all acceptable to plant in these conditions but there was no theme, or linkage between species within the landscape of the property. What we settled for on this project was a more refined species list, with more purpose, that aligned with the brief of the look envisioned for by the clients. This hill slope is approximately 225m2 so planting is going to happen in stages. Stage 1 is the bottom, flatter third as well as a sight line of this plants along the edge of the driveway at the top of the site.
The list of plant species used is as follows:
- Lomandra ‘lime tuff’ planted at 500mm intervals along the driveway edge for delineation
- Grevillea Royal mantle
- Grevillea Forest rambler
- Grevillea Fanfare
- Grevillea Coconut ice
- Grevillea Bronze rambler
- Grevillea Scarlet sprite
- Grevillea Lanigera ‘Mt tamboritha’
- Callistemon Rocky rambler
- Callistemon Little John
- Callistemon Firebrand
- Callistemon White Anzac
- Adenanthos cunninghamii lighthouse
- Casuarina glauca cousin it
- Isopogon Candy cones
- Festuca Elijah blue
- Senecio chalk sticks
- Yellow and blue Sedums
- Graptoveria
- Euphorbia ascot rainbow
- Euphorbia ascot silver swan
- Euphorbia ascot ruby
- Myoporum parvifolium

Planting and mulching begins to transform this slope

The next stage of the project will commence in 2026- come back to see how we have progressed! All good things take time.
