Palm tree- Bottle palm
(Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) The solitary trunk resembles a swollen bottle (hence the name) and the compact nature of this palm makes it ideal for smaller gardens. The leaves are lush, pinnate and feathery green and along with the exaggerated shape of the trunk make an eye-catching addition to any tropical landscape or patio plant. Sensitive to frost and slow-growing.

Light requirement: Full sun or part shade.
Water requirement: Minimal, thrives in drought once established.
Watering frequency: Occasional. Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant will help retain soil moisture.
Soil: Well-draining, fertilised soil.
Skill level: Suits Beginner Green thumb, low-maintenance plant.
Growth rate: Slow growth.
Suitable for container gardens: Choose a pot at least twice the size of plant. Water regularly if you are growing them in pots as it will dry out quickly
