Light requirement: Prefer part shade or filtered light. Some varieties tolerate periods of sun, but not full day exposure. Some varieties produce different coloured leaves depending on their sunlight exposure. 
Water requirement: Moderate.

Watering frequency: Water regularly until established. Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant will help retain soil moisture.
Soil: Well-draining, fertilised soil. Will tolerate most soil types including sandy soil.
Skill level: Suits Beginner Green thumb, low-maintenance plant.
Growth rate: Slow to Moderate to fast growth/ species dependent. 
Suitable for container gardens: Choose a pot at least twice the size of plant. Water regularly if you are growing them in pots.

‘pink diamond’ - Striking variegated foliage and is relatively fast-growing, The plant features long, sword-like leaves with a vibrant mix of green, pink, and cream stripes & can reach 30-60cm in length. It tolerates full sun to part shade, with the best leaf color achieved with plentiful sunlight.

‘rubra’ - The plant has broad, glossy leaves with a reddish-brown, burgundy, deep red, and purple tones, with new growth streaked with rose pink. Rubra prefers partial shade, especially when young or when grown in a hot climate.

‘nigra’ - Dark, dramatic foliage in shades of burgundy to almost black, with new growth shades of green, which makes a striking contrast. The foliage color can intensify with more sunlight exposure. Prefers well-drained soil, bright indirect light, and can be grown outdoors in warm, humid climates or as a container plant indoor. Drought-tolerant and requires minimal care.

‘tangelo’ - Moderately fast-growing, clumping, upright shrub. Coral-coloured new leaves and wide variegated dark green leaves edged with coral/ bright pink. Full sun to part shade, with the most vivid colours developing in brightest light.

‘Kiwi Pride’ - Is a popular choice because of its captivating foliage, featuring lime-green, with yellow and pink shades. This is a compact variety, compared to other Cordylines. Drought-tolerant thrives in hot, humid conditions but prefers a partially shady position, or happy indoors.

‘John Klass’ -  Broad, glossy leaves that are a mix of burgundy-green, edged with bright pink and red. A low-maintenance plant in tropical climate, can tolerate some sun, but prefers part shade or filtered sun.

‘maize’ -  It has narrow, large arching leaves with a mix of green and pink tones, and tolerates full sun to part shade. The pink tones are most vivid with full sun exposure. A great choice for screening in narrow spaces and grows tall.

‘rooster tail’ - This variety originates from Australia and is one of the toughest and hardiest, will tolerate cold climates too. It produces narrow multi-coloured leaves, like red, orange and green that arch from the base and cascade, resembling a roosters tail.  Thrives in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.

'tartan’ - It features dark, chocolate-brown leaves edged with lime green and hot pink, creating a bold, tartan-like appearance. The plant has an upright, clumping growth habit and is suitable for adding height and visual interest to gardens or containers.
