Light requirement: Full sun or part shade.
Water requirement: Minimal, thrives in drought.

Watering frequency: Occasional.  Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant will help retain soil moisture.
Soil: Well-draining, fertilised soil. Will tolerate most soil types including sandy soil.
Skill level: Suits Beginner Green thumb, low-maintenance plant.
Growth rate: Slow to Moderate to fast growth/ species dependent. 
Suitable for container gardens: Choose a pot at least twice the size of plant. Water regularly if you are growing them in pots as it will dry out quickly and the stress will make them more prone to disease.

‘Red Neck’ - (Dypsis leptocheilosSometimes called Teddy Bear palm due to the softness of the trunk, which is wine-coloured and as it matures produces striking rings. This elegant palm does not develop additional trunks making this a good choice for a feature tree as it wont take over like some other palms. Moderate growth rate and is cold-hardy. The leaves are very long and offer shelter for under-story plants.

‘Foxtail’ - (Wodyetia bifurcata)  This neat, self-cleaning palm has a a grey trunk with compact feathery fluffy fronds (hence the name foxtail). It is native to North QLD's Cape York and suited to that tropical/ subtropical climate. Fast growth rate and is drought & frost tolerant once established. Fun fact: bifurcata is Latin for “twice divided,” in reference to the shape of both the fruit and the fish-tailed leaflets. The leafs are plumose in appearance and grow up to 2-3m in length.

‘Alexander’ - (Archontophoenix alexandrae) Native to QLD & NSW. A classic palm in appearance with long, deep green fronds and silver undersides of leaf. Grey trunk with horizontal bands.

‘Bottle’ - (Hyophorbe lagenicaulis) The solitary trunk resembles a swollen bottle (hence the name) and the compact nature of this palm makes it ideal for smaller gardens. The leaves are lush, pinnate and feathery green and along with the exaggerated shape of the trunk make an eye-catching addition to any tropical landscape or patio plant. Sensitive to frost and slow-growing. Full sun or part shade is ideal.

‘New Guinea clumping’ - (Ptychosperma microcarpum) Slim, smooth grey stemmed clumping palm with long, divided feathery, light-green fronds that grow up to 7m in length.  Grows in any soil type and in full sun to part shade and will even tolerate filtered sunlight/shade. An excellent all-rounder and low-maintenance palm. Perfect for screening and is fast-growing.

‘Golden Cane’ - (Dipsis Lutescens) A common palm known for its golden-yellow stems, clumping habit densely formed at the base, with bright green, arching feathery foliage. Excellent as a screening option, is fast-growing and grows well in full sun.

‘Pananga coronata’ - Ivory Cane Palm. Lovely clumping palm with creamy stems. Grows well in full sun (ideally morning sun) or part shade, high-humidity and lots of water. Doesn't tolerate strong winds or frost. The leaves are pinnate in shape and mid-green.

‘Licuala ramsayii’ - (North QLD Fan palm) These show-stopping, broad and almost circular fan-like leaves scream tropical rain forest, which is where this palm originates from in North QLD.  Grows well in filtered sun or morning sun. Slow-growing, does not tolerate wind and will handle a few cold winters days but not frost hardy. This palm forms a lovely canopy to offer shade to understory plantings.

'Licuala elegans’ - solitary fan palm suited to shady areas and frost-free position. The large green leaves can grow as wide as 1.5m, are undivided and possess a pleated appearance. 

Mature Height : Can grow up to 5 meters 
Mature Width: 1.5m spread

‘Bangalow’ - An Australian native palm that grows well in full sun or filtered light. Deep green leaves are arching and feathery. This palm is self-cleaning and is semi-frost tolerant when established. Requires regular watering.
