‘Tectorius' (screw pine) - Not frost-tolerant. Will tolerate light shade or half shade. Mature Height: 12 metres Leaf colour: Green Size of leaf: Linear, grow to about 1m in length and 5-8cm wide. Leaves have short spines and grow from the branches in a screw-like fashion which explains the common name Flower Colour: Creamy white Flower Shape: The flowers occur in clusters surrounded by large bracts Fruit: The ripe segments of the fruit and the seeds can be roasted and eaten. Fruits are produced on female plants that are large pineapple-like, and when ripe yellow, red or orange segments contain the individual seeds. |
