If you're looking to inject some colour into your landscape, we recommend Photinia 'red robin for a stunning display! The young new growth is red or rust- coloured which contrasts strikingly with the more mature green foliage. It's also very versatile, serving as a statement piece or a hedge for screening. Keep it pruned to maximize the rusty foliage, or leave it to grow and enjoy the masses of puffy white flowers.
Light requirement: Full sun or part shade.
Water requirement: Minimal once established, drought tolerant.
Watering frequency: Water frequently when first planted to establish. Applying a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant will help retain soil moisture.
Soil: Well-draining, fertilised soil.
Skill level: Suits Beginner Green thumb,
Growth rate: Moderate to fast growth. Mulch and water regularly to establish plant for the first 3 months. Prune as required to promote new growth and maintain shape. Fertilise twice a year with a slow release fertiliser.
Suitable for container gardens: May be able to grow in a container. Choose a pot twice the size of plant and repot when roots become visible underneath.
